Why choose nail surgery?
- It's a cost effective way to deal with ingrowing nails.
- We can see you quickly
- It's permanent.
- No recurrent infections.
- Footwear is more comfortable.
Nail surgery is a routine minor procedure, undertaken under local anaesthetic, to relieve discomfort from your ingrown and painful toenails. This is done by removing the offending section, or sometimes the whole toenail and treating the root to prevent it from growing back.
PNA - a section of nail is removed either side of the nail to make the nail more narrow
TNA - The whole nail is removed.
In both procedures a chemical (Phenol) is used to destroy the nail bed so there is no regrowth.
The 1st appointment will be to assess whether you are suitable for the procedure.
We will take a full medical history.
A list of medications that you are taking.
You will have a vascular assessment checking whether your circulation can sustain healing and that there are no abnormalities in the flow.
Children will have to understand what will happen during the procedure and be comfortable with it
We will go over the procedure with you and if suitable we will book you in for the surgery on a different day.
